Logo Animations

Logo Animations

FINE ARTS

For This particular logo a couple of test animations were produced. The first one being a particle deform of the logo returning to its original state.

For the second version the logo was separated into three separate lines and stroke was used so as to reveal the lines. This logo was then passed on to Thomas where he then animated it.

CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION

The logo was separated using Photoshop so that movement would be easier to animate using AfterEffects. For each layer that was separated a continuation of the image hat to be drawn.

In AfterEffects a simple key framing of the position attributes of the individual layers was used along side motion blur so as to get more 'realistic' results. The last bit was just a matter of getting the right timing.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Due to the amount of instances where the lines cross over them selves, animating this proved to be slightly more time consuming then most. A stroke effect was used for the entire logo, but due to the overlapping lines parts of the stroke were remaining unrevealed.

The first attempt was to speed up the animation, but the error was still visible.

The second attempt was an abstract interpretation of the lines being revealed, which it still quite like but other options were requested.

At this point it was decided to return to photoshop, cut the image into different layers duplicating each intersection. And then applying masks to them in AfterEffects accordingly. This allowed for a free flowing animation.

Due to misunderstandings on how the logo should be animated (from back to front or form front to back) three different versions of this logo had to be animated, each using the above method.

GAME GRAPHICS AND INTERACTIVE MEDIA

Two versions of the logo were also produced.

The first version consisted of the X and O shifting rapidly around the + having a combination of blurs and opacity changes. While the + slowly rises and slams down to original size. But this did not evoke the desired effect.

Therefore a simpler approach was taken, in which the X and O simply vanish a reappear randomly.

PERFORMING ARTS

The initial idea for this logo was the have it dance, this would have reflected the subject matter well. Puppet tool was used to try evoke the idea the the character (logo) is dancing, many versions were animated, but all looked like an awkward looking worm moving. Although it was humorous it was inappropriate for the task at hand.

This is why the ribbon was animated instead of the character. Separated it using Photoshop and creating multiple versions of the ribbon. The ribbons were exported and individual layers to files and uploaded to Aftereffects as a sequence, timing adjustment and visual adjustments were also made later.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Adjustment layers were created and an assortment of effects such as optical flares and colour correction were used to get the desired effect.
---------
SPATIAL AND PRODUCT DESIGN

All the lines were separated using Photoshop and animated in After Effects.

The challenges in this animation were simply finding the most visually pleasing way to deconstruct the box.

RENDERING

The image below is just a small example of the amount of rendering the had to take place.
